Need information on International 57 wire baler

We recently purchased Model 57 baler. The previously owner did not have any manuals. He sujested we replace the wire so that it would feed smoothly (old wire rusty). Should you have to take the nut off and lift up the knotter assembly to secure the end of the new wire?
