Jeez! That must've taken forever! Do you think one of these 30-ish HP compacts with a front loader has enough grunt to cut thru the clay?
: Gary, I dug a pond with my old 35HP tractor w/ a 3 point rear scoop. It also handles a 5 ft. 3 point rotary mower(brush hog)
: : I have never owned a tractor before, but I plan on buying soon. But I think that my "wants" may exceed what I can reasonably expect out of one machine.
: : I have three rough partially-wooded acres. I want to put in about 1.5 acres of lawn and also put in a small pond (100 x 40?). I will want to be able to mow the lawn with the same machine in the summer, and clear the driveway in the winter (heart of the snow belt).
: : Is there a machine out there small enough to mow over the septic field, yet big enough to dig the pond? I have about a foot of topsoil, then it's all clay underneath. I understand that if I pay someone to do the heavy pond work with a dozer, there are plenty of machines that can handle all of the other tasks. Thanks for your suggestions. Garry
